Hey there. Im brand new to saltwater(only a veteran in FW), I have a 20 gal that I have that is available for use. It's 12"W/16"H/24"L...

Its normally been used for freshwater, all glass. So, I've trying to do some homework and couldn't find much info about it.

1.About the filtration, can I just use my freshwater filtration with the same carbon stuff???
2.For sand, what would you guys recommend? As I will start off with fish only with a little rock here and there. And is it okay to use artificial things in saltwater such as caves?
3.What about lighting, do I need a Sun Bright Led lighting for a tank with fish and rocks only(not live rocks but soon later)
4.What about skimmer, what exactly does a skimmer do??? Is it really recommended?
5.What kind of equipment would you guys recommend for me to get to measure the salinity and everything else?
6.Also, do I need any aeration for it?

Last but not least, what kind of fish will best suit into my 20 gal? I want anything that fits in my tank together and won't have a problem and also attractive to people. And I want to squeeze in as many fish as I can into my 20 gal and for them to live comfortably. :nilly:

1. yes
2. oolite, a fine aragonite sand.. but anythijng calcerous would work
3. normal lighting is fine for FO or FOWLR tanks (fish only/with live rock)
4. not need but a great thing to have.. alot of options based on price range
5. a simple hydrometer has worked fine for me so far, but refractometers are much better
6. if the filtrations/circulation is up to snuff, air pumps and such are superfluous

You can use your Fw filtration as long as its not a undergravel filter. I would change the media to like chemi pure elite. Get some live sand for the substrate, you can get a 20lb bag for around $30. I would suggest only live rock for decor because its natural, looks good, and is a biological filter, but you can put artificial stuff in there. Your stock lighting should be fine if your not planning on having corals. I would definetl reccomend a protein skimmer such as the tunze nano or aqua c remora. A hydrometer is to measure salinity, you can pick one up for like $8 or you could get a refrectometer which is more expensive but more accurate. You could get a pair of clownfish or if you want a single species a wartskin angler.

once again you beat me to it lol

wow not as much as i thot u would have to change and are any chicleds saltwater fish because im looking for new fish for a 75 gal i also have a 20 gal with a red oscar a red devil pink convicts black convicts texas chicleds and jack dempsey in my other A cigar sshark and agrican chicleds

sure.. added flow is almost always a good thing

can they get tired and be stress from swimming all that current from the powerhead??? sorry just being curious...very new to SW...

Uless they are weak-azz swimmers like horses and pipes or they have ZERO shelter in the tank it should be fine

I mean obviosly don't have a 5,000 GPH pump in a 20 gallon tank...
