they're both about four inches long. i have them both in a 75g tank for the time being. once they get a little bigger i'm going to look into getting the jag a 125g. possible breeding project? they color change soo much it's crazy. the jag will go from almost completely black with tiny tints of brownish gold to just about completely gold with iridescent blue/green fins and everywhere in between. the dempsey will go from a gorgeous pearl color with almost completely blue fins to black with tons of blue speckles. thanks everyone!!

i have no idea on the managuense looks too little to e sexed but the jack dempsey is female.

see i had read that if a dempsey had red tipped fins it was male. thanks folks..

i am going towards male jag simply because he is so colored up for such a wee guy, but honestly theres no way of being sure when they are this young...nice one though.

personally i think the JD is a male. kind looks very similar to my male and seems to be colouring up nicely.
the jag is too small to tell what sex it is. i would agree with RED DEVIL in that as it is quite colourful at such a small size then its likely a male. i have had colourful females in the past too.

thanks everyone, I was leaning towards male jag and female dempsey too. it's nice to hear some feed back. I'll keep you guys posted on their growth to see if they do turn out to be what I think they are.

don't male dempseys lose some of the blue coloring on the lower part of the gill plate after a certain size?
