Okay apparently TFD made a mistake and my second shortnose is actually a florida:cry: I was really hoping to try my hand at keeping shortnose's and because of their reputation for being fragile I wanted to keep more than one just in case. Now I find out my second gar sold to me as a shortnose is a florida. Which makes me question wether my original shortnose is definetly a shortnose. So please I know E_americanus and Pejelagarto are pretty much experts so I'm hoping you guys can make a positive I.D. Also if anyone knows where I can obtain more shortnose I'd greatly appreciate it if you shared that info. with me as well. Thanx

hey man the fish you have pictured is definitely a shortnose gar, so you're good with that one. i know TFD was advertising shortnose gars at one point, and on aquabid their photo for said ad was indeed of a shortnose gar. so they did have the ID correct at some point in time.

as was suggested in the other thread, since your latest fish was their "last one" they probably just assumed it was a shortnose or didn't pay enough attention, and just shipped you the last gar they had. they are a large distributor, so it's hard to expect them to spend so much time on a somewhat "tough" ID between gars at that size (especially since that FL was a little washed out), BUT they should also be shooting for customer satisfaction AND giving you what you paid for. IMO if you can't make the right ID (as a seller) then you shouldn't be selling the fish and taking the customers' money.

looks like this shortnose is doing well though, good luck!--
