The little male dovii is still doing well and eating well. Same for the tiny texas. The texas, while much smaller than the dovii at 2 1/2", is much more comfortable and doesn't hide at all. The dovii, on the other hand, divides his time between swimming about and hiding.
The motas spawned again a couple of days ago but the eggs weren't fertilized and grew fuzzy. The loisellis spawned the same day and have thousands of eggs again, as usual. They still have fry from their last spawn and four or five from back in August that are still hiding out. The big jags will likely spawn very soon as well. Their fry still number about 75 and are getting pretty big with most at around 1 3/4". I really don't know what I'm going to do if fry end up surviving all the way. Kind of a "be careful what you wish for" type of scenario.
I'm still trying to catch that Red Terror at every water change, but he is a maniac when the net comes out. I promised him to my neighbor who gave me the giant Tiger Oscar. I'll get him one of these days, lol. A female dovii is still in the works. The one I got from Ken Davis (along with the male) was too timid I believe and got too close to the loisellis' fry and paid with her life. They actually tore half of her face off during the night. I really like the quality of Ken's dovii and would like to get another female from him. I just wish I could choose an individual in person. Personality is a very important aspect of a new introduction in my situation and being able to choose the best fit would definately be a plus for me.
I got a Synodontis eupterus from a member of my local aquarium club. I also got two Synodontis eupterus from Ken Davis. One of Ken's wasn't well from shipping and died the next day. So now, there are three total. The floor of my tank has never been cleaner, lol. These guys are awesome at janitorial work.
I also got some plant clippings from another member of my local aquarium club and got those in tonight. I forget all the names, I'm not big on plant names but I love the natural look.
Anyway, thanks for looking and here's some pics...
Horrible dark shot of the dovii...
Tiny (but very brave) Texas...
Jag fry with some new plants (all the smaller light green plants are new)...
More new plants...
More plants with a couple of loiselli fry...
Same plants as above but with giant male loiselli showing breeding dress...
And since everyone always asks, a tank shot...
The plants are just clippings and should grow really well. The guy I got them from is a planted tank expert (I'm not) and these are all supposed to be hearty plants with no ferts needed (especially with the pile of poop my fishes put out, lol). I like plants that don't require anything special other than light. My fishes have done really well with the swords and java moss so I really hope these new plants take off.
Thanks again for looking and thanks for this great forum. You guys and gals are my constant inspiration.
