back in the mid 90's, before all these 3D cement backgrounds you now see, i made a 3D background, the shell was made out of a cardboard box the size of the back of my 55gal tank and a thickness of about 10". it was made to go on the outside of the back of the tank. the spray foam that i use was nothing i can find today... when you sprayed a golf ball size out it would expand to the size of a honeydew, and the surface would be roundish and smooth given that big boulder look. today's foam greatstuff comes out lumpy and bumpy and doesn't smooth out or expand that much in comparison. that stuff i used back then i was able to make nice looking boulders and want to do this again but this time i would put it in the tank.
would anybody know that mid 90's brand of spray foam or a brand today that can duplicate that round boulder look and not a decrepit looking vine?

Just get a backround by desighns by nature and call it a day... i don't have one but I have seen them and they look GOOD...

naa, making it is most of the fun... besides, don't think they would have the size i want... it's going to have to cover the back, left and right sides and the bottom of an 8'x4'x4'... and i'v seen what you are talking about... they ARE beautiful...

I love the DIY fun projects like this. :) Please post build photos.. I need a background for my tank but the shape is unusual and I can't find anything suitable on DBN either although they sure are pretty.
