hi agen yes its been a while
Ive just had another idea pop into my head and was wondering what yous thought of it right i have a largish number of 3 and 4 foot tanks and i was wondering what if i removed one of the short sides on 2 of the tanks and silicon ed 2 4fters together to make an 8fter yes water pressure on the 1 weak joint would be a big problem but do you think the idea could work with a bit tweaking like a rim around the middle joint any ideas of what to make the rim out of and do you think the average glass thickness on a 48"x12"x18" would be thick anuf to with stand the pressure

any way ownly an idea tips, suggestions, ideas all welcome

regards

It will work as long as you promise to post videos of the explosion that takes place when you fill it up :)

Just kidding you man...

It would take a fairly significant frame to support the center joint. The bracing needed wouldn't be aesthetic at all.

You would be better off building a plywood tank and use the glass panels inside the framework.

ye thanks for that i have built ply aquariums but i was just looking for a use for all these small 3 & 4 footers as Ive got loads they come as a part of a joblot i suppose i could scour the silicone off all the sides and separate the pieces and use them separately in different ply aquariums but then the glass thickness on a 48"x12"x18" wouldn't be very thick and it realy worrys me that the front will just explode off water pressure like what sort of volume, size do you think these panels could take ? mmm! what if i doubled them so the glass is twice as thick do you think that will allow for more water pressure ? or am i being a bit risky

thanks for all the help

Doubling up the glass would give you maybe 10-15% more strength, but it wouldn't double. Also, you would now have to worry about bacteria or particles getting between the two pieces of glass and causing you other problems.

A better thought maybe would be to sell off the tanks you don't want and use the money to buy a piece of the proper glass. I made a post recently where I bought two office doors from a construction salvage yard. The doors have 1/2" x approximately 72" x 30 tempered glass panels. You might try that route as well.

Good luck!

thanks for the ideas matey im just not shore how much i would get for them prob no more than 15-20 pound each so wouldn't raise more than say 150 pound

is their like a thingi for glass thickness n
like so many mm per 1g or + g
