hey fellow fish lovers!

I am practictly new and need a little help if possible. I have a 20 gal tank with 6 red tetras,2 peppered corys, and a emerald cory none are very big yet so I hope it is not over crowded...yet.i have had this wierd purple growth on some of my plants and searched a bit and is not good.can't find that name so dont know wats it called. but u guys might know wat to do.it comes from high organics, low current and lots of light.all of which is true for mine but the organics is not to high...according to the website at least.know how to get rid of it? also with my starter fish i had 3 peppered corys and a hifin spotted pleco. sorta weird though because my fav fish were the pleco and one of the peppered corys{the cory was very slow and dark}. they're the only ones i could come up with names for and they both died so maybe its bad luck for names.after that got 3 more tetras making 6 and got the emerald cory. then got the same pleco and it died to.so looking for a smaller pleco that will really clean up algae or algae eater.also looking for info on purple growth. sorry if it seems as if i am telling my life story but thought u would need info on the tank. thanks for the help!!!:newbie:

It's a little misguided to buy a fish thinking it will keep your tank clean. It sounds like your tank was never properly cycled. You should read up on the nitrogen cycle and make sure your tank is stable before you add any more fish.

Agreed. Here we go with another "pleco-as-a-custodian" thread. Plecos, whatever size they eventually get, are fish. They, however, make alot of mess, dispite their rep as "cleaners". If you dont have an aquarium water test kit....get one. Test for nitrates. BTW, plecos dont usually eat algae if there is other food available.

I am not gonna pay the pleco today or somthing like that i was thinking of in a couple of months and i do have test kit. nitrate close to 0. nitrite 0. hardness 250. cloine 0. alkalinity 180. PH 7.4. amonia the color on the kit isn't clear but about inbetween o-o.5. and thanks for the advice.

Hmm...well hi and thanks for asking, this definitely is the place to get questions answered by experienced people.

Are the plants live? If not I would scrub the algae off them, did that for my betta today because his tank is by a window so the green algae grows on the plastic. It's not a permanent solution but it might help at least until you can figure out a permanent solution.
