I have 2 jewel cichlids in a 20 gallon tall tank. They have several good caves that can keep them totally hidden. In addition I have a large silk plant that goes from the floor of the tank to the waterline, so they have ample cover to feel secure. At the first sight of a human being they shoot into a cave and won't come out until we are out of sight. They are eating fine on shrimp pellets and flake.
Will adding perhaps 4 er 5 neon tetras help to get them over their shyness.
I coax them out using the pellets in hopes to let them know not to fear me, but it seems to not be working too well.
Any tips on getting these guys to be less shy?
