If he decides to keep them as wet pets, that's perfect. I rather see a low population tank than many over populated busy tanks. I would suggest add a nature bacground though as seeing reflection of junk through the tank is distractive. If you enjoy watching fish swimming, add an arrowana which is a perfect companion with Oscars and will swim gracefully back and forth in a long tank.
