hi people, my 12-13 inch poly died 2 days ago the day after a water change. I am 70-80% sure that the cause of death is a decrease in pH too fast. Boston water is pretty basic and I accidentally added to much "pH UP" from aquarium pharmaceuticals. The pH dropped from around 7.3-7.2 to 6.3-6.2. yes, i know this was a mistake....i under-estimated the potency of this product and I feel bad about it.
The poly was in a tank with one true festae and one red-tail leopard pleco. they are both still very healthy. The point of this thread is that I just wanted to alert poly owners to the possible fact that polys, or at least poly endli, may be more susceptible to sudden pH change than other fish....especially CA cichlids and SA plecos.
I orginally suspected that the festae stressed or abused the poly to death...after discussing the appearance of the dead body of my poly on a different thread and comparing the size difference between the two (poly was much bigger), it was determined that the festae did not kill the poly.
Anyway, I just want to let people know of my experience.
PS: for all you people who are looking to give me crap...yes, i know any fish can die from a sudden increase/decrease in pH...the point of this is to let people know that poly, or at least poly endli, may be more susceptible to it than other fish.
goodluck everyone, hopes this helps.

just out of curiousity, how high was the current in the tank? I've known people who added a large amount of Ph up/down at once and seemingly had it not dissipate fast enough, leaving a mass of highly acidic/basic water in the tank for a few seconds. Any fish t hat swam through it would feel very ill effects.
