Hello every one
It may look like a dum question, But i hope to find an answer, What if i'll get a UV bulb and hanged it directly above my tank- as i do with a normal lamp and turn it on some time like 30 min per day, Will that harm my fish?, Will that help in Sterilizing unwanted organism in the tank?
I am not talking about a full UV system - Witch is very expensive and hard to find here- i am taking about a UV lamp only something like this

What do you think ?

im no expert on uv filtration, but i think the water has to be closer to the source(uv lighting) to kill organisms and such. i believe thats why they are such compacted systems.

DON'T DO IT!!!
It will harm your fish and anyone else who stares at the light being emitted. The fish and anyone else exposed to the light will get an extreme sun burn and that includes your eyes.
Now the link you posted is for a UV light but it's not a germicidal lamp so it would just make some colors stand out more and you can use it to find pet stains around the house. Think of it as more of the lights people use in CSI to find blood and fluid stains. The light in the link doesn't sterilize anything.

Yes as stated the kill rate of the bulb drop a lot the further you move away from the bulb.

Also there is a wide range of UV which is why it is broken down into UVA, UVB, UVC

A is visable to some animals but doesn't do much but make some stuff glow.
B is basically not visable to anything, it helps animals with the production of vitimine D
C is harmfull, it destroys cells, it can harm you vision, give you a tan, and usuful for harming the DNA of close by bacteria and single cells making them unable to reproduce.

UV will permanently damage your eyes and may cause blindness. the rays must be filtered through water for them to be safe.

do not just hang one over your tank!

Thanks for the warning
All the UV systems i can find really huge, I must look harder
