Pleco poop experts, lookey here:ROFL:
So I have a 2" Clown Pleco, and he's very happy with the big driftwood pile in the tank. As expected, he makes little brown stringy looking turds from the driftwood. In fact, he makes enough in a week to make another 2" Pleco out of it
Today I picked up a 4" Flash Pleco, also a driftwood-loving Panaque. So the question is, is the stringy driftwood crap just as ammonia producing as regular fish dump? Or is it just nasty processed wood? I figure it still produces some ammonia as it decomposes, but probably not as much as say, a flake eating fish or a meat eating fish...?
(Yes, I do supplement their diets with meat, pellets and algae wafers)

plecos are poop monsters ... if it is not white and stringy you're ok.

= more gravel cleaning and more snails

drift wood especially new if not cured properly will release stuff into the water... watch it daily

hmm i don't know for sure but I would clean it anyway just to be on the safe side.

Yes it is, in fact, it can also be hazardous as it produces cyanide toxins and several bacteria commonly found on Mars. The best way to get rid of this problem is te let the pleco feed on raw, preferably live, flesh instead of driftwood for a while.

:ROFL:Sure, Davib... raw live flesh? Wanna come over and put your arm in the tank for the Pleco to gnaw on?

Oh, it's Malayan bogwood, it's cured :)
And I have Loaches, so Snails wouldn't work... lol

 Cool, a Poo Post!
To answer your question-no, the wood-poo doesn't affect water quality like food-poo. I read about that specifically on WetWebMedia.com from one of Neale Monks articles on panaque. It looks unsightly but that's it. I always laugh the morning after my Plec Tank gets sweet potato. Mounds and mounds of orange string everywhere lol

Sweet potatoe huh? That's one I never tried before. Then again, probably because there's never any extra
:ROFL:I love eating them more than pleco's do :D
