I have 4 Champsochromis Caeruleus in my 180 gallon tank. Here's the problem. I know that I have 1 male as he is 7 inches long and starting to color up which is fine but the other 3 which are appx. 4 to 5 inches long are silver with a black stripe down their sides. I was wondering if the females have any egg spots on them or not. All 3 have a few little ones, maybe 2 or 3 on each one. Are these young females or young males. Please help. I'm trying to get a pair.

Well thanks for helping me out Mike. I don't feel like netting them and turning them over so I' guess I'll have to wait. I assume that your saying that the female's in this species have some egg spots too. Am I correct?

Females will have egg spots too, and it could be possible that there is a sub dominant male. Most likely if they don't get any color and remain drab, then they are most likely to be females.

if there is other males in the tank, the 7" dom. male will keep them in place and they will not color up as nice.
