a question about tropical gars?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
same subspecie though.

not same species, and not same subspecies either.

they are in the same genus (Atractosteus), with the tropical gar being the older species and Cuban gar the younger species (evolutionarily -phylogenetically- speaking) --

Trop has spots cuben dose not.
Trop is normally grey/green/blackish.
Cuben is normally stable at golden/olive green

No, they're of the same genus, but are of different subspecies.

EDIT: Solomon beat me to it by a few seconds. :)

subspecies is irrelevant here too...there is no defined subspecies for either species, so they can't be different subspecies. genetic comparisons among gar populations in the future may yield such designations, but at this time there are none for TPG or CBG; there used to be for LNG (aka L. osseus oxyurus) but those have long been abandoned.--
