I just want to see a show of hands.. Those of you who feed your fish live feeders. Do you put a couple days worth in the tank with your fish and have them pick them off as they please? Or Do you keep them in a separate tank and only throw in a couple day by day and have them eat them as soon as they hit the water? I assume the second method is much better for water quality. I read somewhere that ten fathead minnows can turn a tank into a toxic waste dump pretty quickly...

on the rare occasion i let my fish have feeders, i buy 10-20 small goldies/guppies, keep em in a 10g aquarium for a week or two with alot of salt, and make sure they arent sick, then dump em in.

they usually last 2 days before their all picked out.

oddly enuff, my tiger oscar when he was alone in a 55g, ate all of a batch of 10 or so feeders minus one almost all black one one day. that fish swam with the oscar for 7-8 months :screwy: through another batch or two of feeders too before i moved him fearing the oscar would eventually turn.

You'd be surprised how often this happens!

i personally think your better off keeping a tank of feeders if your going to feed, and toss in more than your fish can get in a day.

it gives them a chance to actually do what comes natural, and hunt. gives them some exercise, and most likely a little bit of fishy fun during the thrill of the hunt, then the reward of the catch

I keep Guppys or roseys just swimming and my ATFG eats as he pleases... only Con is having to be at the right place and time if you wanna watch him eat... My ATFG is getting a lil red on his tail im excited

keep goldies separate and keep guppies int he tank... also keep guppies in a second tank and breed em!... that way u never run out of food!

I've done both at one time or another. Thing is, my Pike would eat them way too fast if I dump too many in at a time, or just left them in the tank all together.

As of now, I've taken my Pike off feeders and it is going very well. I've weened him on to frozen krill instead.
