I don't know a whole lot about angels so please bear with me. My mother recently got into fish and she loves angels. Typical her she got into it after I moved out and got my own tanks lol. We picked up one locally at an lfs whom claimed he came from a local breeder. Our local water ph is 8.1 so i was worried about him but he is doing excellent with no problems at all. He was in a 30 gallon with an assortment of other community fish (rasbora and cardinal tetras, upside down catfish, some small variety of loach). The entire tank was recently moved to a 55 gallon and now she wants more angels. The only new inhabitant is an elephantnose fish. (I did not pick the stock, she did without asking me I might add). So should I help her find new angles or tell her to deal and just keep the one she has. This fellow is huge, he is pushing 3 inches laterally and at least 4 inches dorsally (I'm sure he's happier in the 55). He is about the size of a tea cup saucer. Will he tolerate smaller angels or should I aim to find angels his size. The store we picked him up from as gone down hill and I'm reluctant to purchase from them again. I've looked on aquabid but they are either sold in too large a lot or too small. I suppose we could buy the small ones and grow them out but how will they adapt to the local pH? How many should we add with him if we add anything at all? Thanks for any replies.
