I am more of a cichlid person but the more I see of arowanas the more interested I get in them can anyone tell me the smallest species sold in the states (asians ones are illegal in the US right?) and the more common ones sold in the USA I know about the silvers but they get a little big for the tanks I have is there any other ones though.
Any response would be appreciated.

aro's legal in the US:
silver, up to 4' but 3' usually max in aquaria
black, same as silver but grow slower
jardini, up to 3' but 30" typical
leichardti, 3-4'???
african, 3'???

small aro's? none.

min tank size for a jar,the smallest i believe(not shure bout africans size), will need to be atleast 6'x30"x24", and typically jars are killers and dont allow tankmates.

darn looks like I get to save up for another tank if I want to get one thanks for all the info guys

P.S. I was at my LFS and the fish guy there tried getting me to buy an silver saying and I quote "Dont worry a 75 gallon tank is the largest tank you would need for this fish, which dosen't grow more than 18 inches." Lucky for me I knew silvers get a lot bigger than that, I almost got into an argument with the guy before I just walked out of the store disgusted by the "specialists" lack of knowledge
