I am considering drilling my new tank and running the external filter pipes via tank connectors.Hard pipe inside the tank coming down through the connector to a hose tail fitting and then to the 16/22 mmm eheim pipe to the filter.I feel fairly confident that the canister seal will be able to deal with it but due to there being no weir I have some concerns about the tank connectors.
Will the lack of weirs increase the pressure on the connectors?
Does any body foresee any problems with the canister seals?
Thanks in advance

Hiya,

If i read correctly

All you will be doing is using hard pipe inside the tank with a fishguard on, then using flexi/tubing from a freshly drilled hole/holes to an external filter

Nothing to worry about seal-wise as long as the filter cannister and seal are in working order

Tip though for externals, if and wherever poss, try and get them as high as you can under the tank (if that makes sense) this reduces the "head" the internal pump has to overcome

If i get around to it i'll be drilling mine as i'm so so fed up with messing with internal/external piping lol

Thanks for the reply,my main reason for wanting to do this is to be able to get the tank flush to the wall as it will be going in an alcove and having all the pipe work at the back will be a pain and add an extra 1" that it sticks out.As they will be built into a background also there will be pipes visable in the display area.I thought about going down the sump route but being in the living room I am concerned about any noise as the eheim canisters are silent.
