a Random thought, Who DIY's their furniture?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I built my water bed. I bought the wood and stain from Homey Depot and got the matress and liner from a water bed store. I used the dimensions of the matress seams to design the bed frame.

I also am in the process of building kitchen cabinets to match some that my parents bought a long time ago.

Oh, how could I forget...I also built the computer desk that I am sitting at. I made it using one bedroom door, and a set of bi-fold doors. I also took a computer desk, dissassembled it, cut the pieces, and then made a fish tank stand. I also took a fish tank stand, disassembled it, cut the pieces, and then made a hood for the fish tank. Yeah, I know, I could have saved a lot of work just making the hood out of the desk. (actually it would not have worked the easy way)

I wish I had pix of the beer cap table I made in college.

If I find them I'll post them up:)

I turned my wife's desk into a hut for my guinea pig :D
Gotta have your priorities straight ...

yea man, i have done a few, heres an old couch, hand carved frame, its from a chicago hotel in the 30's. It was horse hair with a floral print, dogs had slept on it and ratted it out. My neighbor was kickin it to the curb. I salvaged it, stripped to the bone, restrung the springs and refinished it. Was pretty fun, had my mom sew the cushions. Check the hand carved frame! We live in a big ole 5 bedroom, this is in the front parlor. Total investment $85 for the fabric. Used my carpet stapler and techniques from laying carpet(i had a bunch of rental houses, you learn all kinds of crap with rentals) to get the tight fit. Ive always got a diy project cookin!
