This is pretty embarrassing but I gotta ask. My 90 gallon has a 48" fluorescent fixture and bulb in it. The bulb is the bigger kind with two pins on the end and its the thickest one. What are these bulbs designated as ? Beyond fluorescent so I know what to order. I got a new lighting setup coming for it soon but the bulb for my old 48" died and I want to get a bulb for it so it can be used on one of my empty 55's

So my question in a nutshell. What is the old old standard fluorescent bulbs code name or trade name so I know where and what to order. The ones at the pet store seem a lot skinnier than the bulb it was running before.

I apologize my expertise is in HVAC R sheet metal and HPS and metal halide lamps for obvious reasons.

Thanks for any and all help folks. :D

These are the diameters (taken from a stoner site so you know it must be good info).

T5=5/8 in.
T8= 1 in.
T12=1.5 in.

I have some LED panels coming in on Tuesday for my new 30g SW/reef. I got them off of eBay for $25 for the grow lights and the blues. I paid $50ish for a panel of 6500K whites. They all have 250 LED's each.

God its so tempting to throw one of my 400 watt HPS on there lol air cooled but it would still be too hot. Maybe when I get a 750 ill throw my 600 or a 1000 up there for the kewl factor! :) Show these guys how "industrial" lighting is done lol

Build your hood like a reef system (mega fans) and you'll be ok with the HPS lights. You still might have to use a chiller though. Typical reef lighting is around 150W to 250W because of the heat generated, but there are still people who won't have anything less than 400W.

Well I guess if I put so much time and energy in to filtration 10-12 times turnover with real filters lol not over stocking and doing everything so overboard... A 400 HPS would be icing on the cake im gonna do some research see how I can make it attractive its a big air cooled hood with 6" duct attachments lol. The same hood I use for my 600's also I got digital ballasts so the light output is enormous :eek:
