Hey everyone, well were getting another tank shortly :headbang2: it'll be something over 100gallons and wide not sure yet. I'm going to order Amphilophus rhytisma there's not much information on this beautiful cichlid and it's very uncommon in the hobby so id love to get my hands on these guys and give them a shot. I'm also planing on keeping Amphilophus lyonsi with them. What size tank should I get? And any information on care and breeding for the A. Rhytisma?

Here is a picture of a group of four I had for a couple years. They appreciate sandy substrate that they can sift through. Mine were fairly slow to mature and never showed any breeding signs. I've read they are suscebtible to skin problems. My group died of ick, of all things. Never kicked it with regular treatment. My male got pretty nasty too.

Thank you. Do you suggest mixing the two species? I'm going to buy four of each grow them out togther and pick the best pair of each then sell the other two or grow them out in another tank.

I could possibly work in a large tank. The rhytisma stay to the bottom, alot like an earth eater. It would hinge on the temperment of the lyonsi though.

Lyonsi are not to bad as far as temperment i have lysoni in with severums and chocolate cichlids and they are fine in both tanks(actaully the ones with the chocolates get harrassed by the chocolates more than anything. They seem to chase each other than their tank mates in the tank with the severums. I also have a 8 inch female lysoni in myy 180 with other large centrals and she just stays to herself mostly.

That's why I chose lynosi, there temperament and colors they give you beautiful coloring like trimacs with out the aggression and the rhytisma are just spectacular species that I want to help introduce into the hobby. I think I'm going to buy a fairly larger tank that's wide around 140ish gallons? Grow four juvis of each species out togther and add some rosy barb for dithers, I have left over ones that were suppose to be feeders.
