I am getting one this weekend, and have some questions. There isn't a lot of info on the internet.

1. Can they be sexed at 3-4''? If so, is it true males have more blue, and pointed fins?
2. What is the best diet?
3. How big do they really get? Do they really get 10'' long?
4. Are they aggressive at all?

1. Males have more blue and longer fins. There fins are also more pointed and the lateral line generally isn't as dark.

2. Mine eat anything from color bits, flakes, bloodworms, and most any frozen food.

3. Males can get 10 inches. They are slow growers though and will take several years. Females do not get that big. They also will not show a lot of color until over 5 inches and gradually get more color as they mature.

4. They can be fairly aggessive especially with other Robertsoni's and other fish that compete with them. They stay at the bottom and like to sift gravel. Anything else that does this is looked at as competition. They are on the level as JD's, Brazilensis, and such. They are not aggressive enough to compete with the really mean fish, but would still beat the crap out of fish like the non agressive geo's. They tend to ignore anything that is not a cichlid. You will have problems with all geo's (except Brazilensis) and fish like chocolates, firemouths, and the such unless it's a very large tank.

lets see some pics!!

They are SLOW growers. Mine took a couple of years to get from 3/4" to 4-5"...and this was with lots of feeding and daily (automatic) water changes. Females were smaller and less colorful than males.

They're pretty peaceful for Central Americans...They weren't happy in a large community with other CAs. I kept mine by themselves other than some Buenos Aires Tetras.

I've owned a couple. The first one grew to 8" in just about 2 years and was female (only way I knew that was she laid eggs for the guy I sold her too).

The second one I bought at 3-4" and a year later was still 3-4".

Mine were quite non-aggressive. I kept the first with angels and G. brasiliensis. The second was kept with more aggressive fish like V. argentea, A. sp "gold saum", red devil, H. carpintis, etc.

My pair are both about 5 inches. They have grown about 1.5 inches in 4 months. I'll try to post a picture of them tonight. They came from Rapps.

Thanks for all the info everyone :)

I haven't bought a new cichlid in 5 years, so I'm pretty excited.
