the rock...671!!!
got home from work today and noticed that my FH tank was unusually still. flicked on the light and...BAM...my 7in. female golden goddess is lying on the bottom of the tank...dead...i see her mate an 10in. male red dragon off in the corner, floating upside down, barely breathing...a poweroutage knocked my filter out and for some reason it didn't restart (usually does) the tank had no areation/filtraton for 9 hours at the most. i restarted the filter and dropped an airstone into the tank, but my big RD is still having problems getting oriented, he bobs around the tank gasping for air, similiar to a swim bladder infection. it's been 3 hours so far, i've been constantly watching him but he isn't getting any better. water parms are the norm for this tank, NO2 .0 , PH 7.5, NO3 5ppm. i'm thinking of doing a 20% WC, but i afraid that might make it worse. can an oxygen deprived tank cause this? anyone have any suggestions on what else i can do?

when I had a somewhat similar problem (i just didn't turn my pump back on) I did a massive water change and all was well shortly after the change

thanks for the advise nic. the sudden change didn't cause any problems? i'm afraid if i change to much water it might send him into shock or something (well, he kinda already is) he still has the same symptoms, but now he isn't bobing around the tank, he's just lying there breathing and he's trying to poop. he's lost almost all his color aside from the pearls. man, this sucks...i have to do something soon...think i'll do a WC now, but not to much, since i'm positive my water is good (this is my most stable tank) any other suggestions?

bro, what i'll do if i were in your place...i'd do 40-50% WC,at the same time lowering the water depth.then i'll try to maintain water temp to 31-32 deg. celcius. put in a powerful airation using a good airpump connected to airstone. do not feed your fh for a day or two.keep us updated.

i never had much luck with changing water like that unless test shows water parameters way off chart ... i would test water first if every thing is normal then drop down a bubble wand (or multiple airstones and put a power head with air injected in the stream and hold the fish over the bubble or infront of the power head spraying air bubbles ... power head works great bc air is injected into the water flows through the fish gill without his effort ... good luck

thanks for all the advise everyone. i lowered the water level to increase areation from the canister filter, did a 30% WC with precycled water, added some salt, dosed with ammo lock, and added another airstone. still no change in his condition, i've been looking up his condition, its either his swim bladder has to much air or he went into shock due to lack of oxygen. since my water pars were "ok" even after the filter went out, i have narrowed it down to "fish stroke". i've had a jag return from this before. jumped out for X amount of time, his body was already dry and he wasn't moving. i put him back in only to find out that he was still alive. took hours until he regained full movement. hopefully my RD can make a comeback...

progress on the dragon?

excellent!!! alot better then i had hoped for. at first his conditioned did not change, he just lay there gasping for breath for almost an entire day. i held off feeding him and guided him around with my hand every couple of hours. i fed him geltek meds by hand twice (which he gulped down). last night his color returned, although still not has brilliant as before. this morning, to my suprise, he was swimming around!!! he is still weak, i can still physical restrain him with my hand to feed/med him, but i can feel his strenght coming back. things are looking good!!! to everyone who posted advise on how to handle this situation, you have my heartfelt thanks.

Im glad hes better.
