Well this morning I woke to find my fish gasping in my 55 grow out. It turned out that over the night the bubbler had popped out. So I did a water change and then noticed my best male Lwanda wasn't doing well. I put in meds and had to run.

Anyways I came back home and he was spinning. Obviously I pulled him out and put him in his own tank with some more meds. Then the power went off for a good half hour. When it came on he had somehow wedged off the filter cover and then got stuck. Well sad to say he didn't make it. A few last shots of this stud that was to be my main guy for the colony. While I only paid ~7 bucks for him and grew him out myself. This is what he was looking like at 3 inches just before his death.

Hopefully my 4 others will grow and soon start holding so I can have more of these great fish. He will be missed.

I am very sorry to hear that. He was a beauty. I suggest you buy another as soon as possible to help you get over it, but I understand if it is too soon :(
You will pull through

Oh I hope to not have to buy more. Seeing as I have 1 male for sure, and 3 unknowns still. It was just that this male was really really good for his size. (Plus I got him so that he was coming up to everyone. In a few years he would have been a best of show, but it happens and we move on.)

we have kept africans since about '72....and in that time sadly we have seen some incredible fish pass on...in a short span of time we lost our taiwan reef, i have videos of him breeding this was one incredible fish, and our electric blue, another show quality fish....and ~gulp~ a hybrid, that we were calling Lemisti...i have photos of em all thank goodness to back it up that these fish were just A#1 specimens....
..none of our fish are shy, cept some of the comps... so when anyone comes over they are like puppies rushing to the front of the tank and begging/mouthing against the glass ...to everyones delight, ours included of course......

my deepest condolences.....totally understand how it is after raising them for awhile, watching them grow, and fledge out those gorgeous colors, how hard it can be to lose em.....

and it wouldnt be the first dam time i have had a fish wedge themselves when tryng to recoup them, nearly committing suicide!...its heartbreaking for sure....
but maybe that sub male, will now flash out his color, proving to be the next top dom for ya......

he was beautiful! sorry for your loss...
