A sad day

As some of you may know I had a Midavil but recently gave her to the LFS because she was being aggressive to everyone in the tank. Since I can't afford a new tank right now this was the best choice.

This left two gold saums, a convict, 6 silver dollars, an apple snail and my crawdad.

In the past I had attributed fatalaties to the midavil. But yesterday I have discovered a dark truth! When I looked in my tank in the morning I found that my poor beloved crawfish had been ripped in two and his body strewn across the tank.

He will be missed. :cry:
 
sorry for the loss, but keeping something like that with large cichlids does end in disaster on a few occasions

Yes I appreciate the condolences. He (I am pretty sure it was a he) was a really cool addition to the tank until his untimely demise. I never guessed that this was the work of my big female saum and \ or my decent size convict.

I am still wondering how they managed it in the first place. I have a feeling they did this to the previous pleco I had as well (his body was torn in two and I only found the top half). That also is a very sad story.
 
Shellfish are the natural food of just about all cichlids in the world - shouldn't be all that surprised. It's possible he shed as well.

I used to have wood shrimp in a peaceful SA tank and when they'd molt my bolivian and blue rams would nip their legs off then just eat them as they saw fit. Pretty harsh death.

I've also had little baby clown loaches ravage larger crawfish in packs...they're just simply not compatible with most fish. Either they end up the prey or the fish do. Only time I bought them recently was as food for the rays. :)

Yea I knew this was a possibility and the day I got him it was a test to see if I should get a blue one (which are way more expensive). I actually started liking him a lot and so was happy with him. He had just lasted so long that I though for sure he would make it long term. He stood up for himself and everything all the time and kept his back to the wall.
