This kid must have gotten his info on the fish from a Petsmart/Petco aquatic specialist. I bet they gave him the old "1 inch of fish per gallon" story. I remember this all too well when I worked at Petsmart and having to correct them on Large fish or agressive fish like cichlids Vs Community live bearers and tetras. Tank looks to be a 20g, but may be a 29g even though I don't think it looks tall enough. if it's a 20, he probly thinks he has atleast 6" to spare. /sigh 75g would be ideal, but atleast a 55g he could have abit of room to streach out.

So new people to the hobby, this is the wrong way. Hopefully this kid will do the right thing and buy a larger tank for Jimmie.

i doubt he raised that fish it looks to be in good condition, it looks more like he bought it at that size

Agreed, it's just too bad they probly gave him poor information on how to keep it.

i think that might be a 20H?? I also think that he bought it at a size around that

im sorry to rant but where has common sense gone these days??
I understand that newbies can be conned by bad sales people in a store but any monkey can see that something is wrong with that setup without any knowledge about fishkeeping.
say, for example, he did buy it very young from a terrible sales person surely he noticed it getting rather large in proportion to his tank. and if he didnt notice his parents must have noticed something.

i am all for educating new fishkeepers but common sense is a must from the start for any animal's care and it seems to be in short supply these days.

says his teacher gave it to him...

Yeah, just saw that. Then it falls on the teacher for giving him the fish before making sure he was properly informed or ready. By the looks of him you would think the teacher was caring for him properly.
