I have searched the forums and could not find an answer to this; plain old table salt is a heck of a lot cheaper than the stuff at the lfs, but what kind to get? With or without the iodide? By the way, how much would I need for a new 150 freshwater setup? Thanks guys/gals

I have been told it does not matter. People use rock salt, sea salt, water softener salt, iodized and non iodized table salt. But IMO aquarium salt is the safest option and I would stick to it.
