Surprisingly, my last try with cons didn't work out so well. I had 1 male to 3 females, and he beat the **** out of them. But finally, petsmart got their last shipment of cons for the year. I ended up buying a 2 1/2 inch male, and a 1 1/2 inched female. The two looked good at the store as they followed eachother around a little, and there was no fighting. After a few hours of being in my 20 long, alone. They have settled in quite nicely, and gobbled their new flake food greedily. They don't follow eachother sooo much, well, at least the female doesn't. They'll spred out a couple inches, but then the male will meet up to her, do a little gill flaring, and keep up with her. But after I brought them home, I noticed something I missed at petsmart. The male has downturned pectoral fins. And has to rest here and there. He seemed like the boss of the tank at petsmart, but he's a little slow. Will that pass on to his eventual children? I'm only looking to breed them for fun. Well...maybe a few of the fry will be feeders. But that's it. Others go in my 90 gallon pond for the summer.
Wow, I blab too much don't I? I'll keep it simple.

Question: Does this sound like a forming pair? If so, how long would you say until I have eggs? Any ideas on the males fins?

they might be too small to breed right now but if you have a male and female con then you pretty much have a pair. My male is about 3" and my female is 2" they breed like clockwork.

give her some hiding spots and a cave to lay eggs. Then spend the rest of you life figuring out what to do with the babies. It's hard to say if that trait will be passed onwithout knowing if he was born that way or injured. As long as you don't plan on selling the fry and you like the fish go for it.

fins shouldn't pass on, I have had cons breed at just over an inch. It is almost inevitable, just give it time and provide them with lots of protein rich food and good water quality, along with enough space for the pair to be comfortable away from the other inhabitants.

Thanks guys. These convicts are very kind to eachother. And may already be a pair. They follow eachother much more now, and are starting to dig alittle a guard a certain cave or noch for 5 minutes, then get bored an move on. But I guess as long as your convicts aren't killing eachother, all you have to do is wait.

Try adding some dithers to the tank

A pair of cons in a 20L and you want him to add dithers?
Tank ain't big enough to add dithers.
