Hi i was wondering if any one can help me out with some tips i just bought a 5" Arrowna and i cant get him to eat i talked to this lady she said they only eat live food or frozzen food if you have any tips please let me know thanks Joe

I also just picked up a 5" silver aro. They eventually will learn to eat just about anything but so far I'm having success with cut pieces of shrimp.

raw shrimp, crickets, freeze dried shrimp... try to get them on hikari or another good carnivore stick/pellet. You'll get best growth and health getting him to eat a variety of good foods.

It may take a few days for your aro to become accustomed to it's new home. Your best bet for a first food is freeze dried bloodworms, once it is eating those add small diameter pellets.

I have read at several places that Arowanas LOVE crickets.

Where do you find crickets? (Besides looking for and catching them yourselves in your backyard)

Regards,
Sid

Try not to use crickets until as a last resort. Once hey get hooked on crickets, it'll be even more trouble to try and get them on other foods.

agreed. however i did get my jardini on hikari floating pellets by putting them into the crickets before feeding them to the jar. this is not gut loading, this is physically putting the sticks into the cricket and then tossing in the cricket. the aro may spit out the stick the first few times but eventually it will take them. then you can slowly try to just feed it only the sticks. once you get to that phase then you can try massivore, carnivore, etc. or u can just starve them until they eat whatever u toss in there.

o yea, i wouldnt advise catching crickets in your backyard because they could be contaminated with pesticide or other chemicals. i bought my crickets at my lfs, 20 for a buck.
