Happytown :)
So in my town, they're tearing down the old High School, and all the Students are going to a NEW high school (me included. New school on my Senior Year, rofl). I went by the old school today on my way to work and saw something laying on the ground, by the trash piles. For whatever reason, who knows, who cares, they're throwing out 6 peices of 7/8'' thick glass, each 6' x 3'. I figured, hell, that COULD be a cheap tank. So I asked the workers if they would give it away, and they are. I took it home in the car (top down for them to fit, pouring rain, but I got my glass!). So would this be thick enough for a tank? How many gallons would this be? I'm far far from an engineer, so what would it take to put this together into a tank? Would it be as simple as siliconing it all together, and letting it cure? My main thing is the first two questions; is it thick enough, and how many gallons would this be?

That would be a big ass tank, but I think its to thin.

well you have peices that are 6ft long by 3ft tall.

So you would have all 4 sides 6x3.

6x6x3?

that would be 810 gallons. But you will need a bottom peice that is 6x6.

sorry if im wrong on this? i had a long day, and i'm about to pass out.

Yeah, you don't have a bottom.

That glass is plenty thick enough for a 3' tall tank. I used 5/8" on my 42" tall 600 gallon. Nice find.

Ah yeah. How much would a bottom peice cost, or would it be possible to somehow fuse the other two remaining peices together?

just build a plywood tank, and use two pieces of glass.. 1 per side.. then you can make 3 tanks.. and they will be pretty big... say 7 foot long 4 foot high... and then you can go about 4 foot wide... now that's a big tank... 3/4 inch glass should hold...

Well aside from the fact that I have no room, that's a good idea. Plus, even if I had the room, I couldn't rig up that filtration. Even with what I found, I'm basically just saying "What if I tried..." chances are, nothing will come of this and I'll just have giant glass panes in my basement. I might just cut them and make a much smaller tank, maybe muiltiples if I can. A 55, and maybe a 220? I haven't worked it out, but if anything happens at all, it'll probably be that.

I would say multiple smaller tanks, like a couple 75gs or something. Or you could use one 6x3' piece for a bottom and cut the rest down for the sides.

Thats what I was thinking. My current biggest tank is only 55g, and that really hinders what I want/am able to keep. I figure this is a good way to step up and maybe make myself a nice setup, and save money for the fish/other equipment.
