On my 180 gallon I have my 40 watt Uv between the return pump and the end of the pipe that returns water to the main tank. The hose is T'd off and the uv brings water back into the wet dry sump. During the summer I run the Uv light for 8 hours and 6 hours when the sun is not too strong. ( I leave it on longer in the summer because next to the tank on both sides there is windows and I want the uv to kill any algae caused by sunlight. Does this sound like a good amount of time to leave it on during the day?

Also I was just thinking, If I know I am having company the next day and i want my water to be extra clear...would it be good to leave the uv on all day the day before? What techniques do you all use to keep your tank water clear? Just good filtration and water changes?

I leave mine on for my pond 24/7, just change your light every year. But since you have a tank I would leave it on for the day and turn off at night as the good bacteria come out at night. Keeps my pond crystal clear. It's 2,000gallons and you can see right to the bottom,
