I was browsing aquascape today and I noticed that they had some cichlids,I have been wanting to get for the 125 or just by itself in another set up.The one I spotted is a African cichlid, paratillapia polleni and for a South American I have spotted, which is a vieja argentea.Which would be the better purchase?I hear the vieja are extremely aggressive, but people are saying the aggressiveness is similiar to a Jack Dempsey and that paratillapia polleni is similiar to a Oscar's personality.

they are both MILDLY aggressive nothing really to worry about in the aggression department hell just get em both the Polleni is an african RIVERINE cichlid so the water parameters would be the same for both fish I've keep them both together in my old 110g. setup yrs. ago both very cool fish

it seems like that wont happen, they expect a minimum of 40 dollar purchase through them.Don't really want any other cichlids besides them.

I heard supposed horror stories about the agression of argentaes. I have three currently, and have not seen any more elevated an aggression level than what would be expected from cichlids in general. Mine are in a tank with an oscar, bocourti, pearsi, jack dempsey and small green terror. no issues to date, and these are not juvies. I think they are awesome, and not overly aggressive at all. my opinion.

That is good,I may order a Argentea from cichlid connection that is 3 or 4 inches.I am finding out how much shipping would be.

I would definatly get the Argentea over a polleni. Argenteas are one of the most elegant and beautiful fish i have ever come across.
Although mine is EXTREMELY agressive, but i think it all comes down to the personality of the fish.
Some people's Argenteas are like Discus, and some are like Dovii's. It's really a cointoss.

Good luck :)

lmao i have a random lonely wild angel in my tank as well and hes doing great haha, but yeah i love my argentea, sadly i am thinking about switching my tank to discus and may have to get rid of my arg and he really is my favorite fish. i have also heard from other members on here of how aggressive their args are and how they cant be kept with any other fish because they wont stop picking on them but my arg is totally chill, he is about 6-7in so still has quite a bit of growing to do so this might change but i have had him in with everything from midas to angelfish and tetras and as long as nobody messes with him he just minds his own business, the only fish i have had problems with, with him is a new hoplarchus that i got several months ago and its the hoplarchus beating on him (has since been separated to a quarantine tank) for some reason he would just run away from the parrot and wouldnt stand up for himself at all so i had to take out the parrot (the parrot only messed with him and noone else)
