Is it possible/simple enough to cut down the wall between 2 rooms, and build a tank there, and that you could see into the other room from each side?

It seemed like a cool idea to me, but I want to know if it would even work.

that sounds like a cool idea but it all depends on how big/thick you want the tank how thick your walls are...you would probably have to add some supports to the wall since you would probably be cutting through several beams in the wall but im no expert by any means.

You may get more attention if you post in the general salt section. That is unless you plan to put sharks in this tank. They require very wide tanks though. Are you talking a floor to ceiling tank or just a portion of the wall?

Might take more time and calcuations than you think. Contact other members who has sucessfully DIY projects or local contractors. Bet it will be spendy to.

This one is going to be tricky because if you plan on having the tank wider than the wall you have to worry about balancing the tank. If you don't mind protruding the wall out in both directions to fit the tank then I would be worried about where all that evaporated water is going. I was also thinking about this design as well, but abandoned it for its complexity. If you do it I would love to see your results

I'm a carpenter meself!
What ya gotta do is on the one side you built another wall to flush both sides of the tank so looks the same from bothe sides!
This would also create room on the sides and the top for light and plumbing and what not!!!
Easily done And to carry the load of the cieling and the roof you jusyt buy a beam 6" longer than your tank and use two trimmer studs under it!
So really you would have to cut the wall six inches bigger than the tank then frame it back in to hide the new work a little planing and some elbow grease! Easilly done!!!
I can draw you up a pic and post it for you tonight!!!!
Also You would be shrinking the room one one side or the other by the width of the tank!!!
The cool thing is you could put it a couple "fart fans" above the tank for removeing moisture and heat to the attic!!!!
Not a problem!
I could do the entire thing for under $500 and one long weekend not counting mud/texture/paint! and trim!!!

not smart on a second floor-you also need to find out if its a load bearing wall or not before you just hack away at it.I would suggest hiring a contractor but its not a good idea on a second floor anyway.
