Hi, just thought id share some information about carpinite texas cichlids.
i bought them at about an 3/4 to and inch long they were fine in my general community tank for 3 months and grew to 2 inches or so. ( the reason they are in the general communtiy is because they were too small for the cichlid tank)
everything went well until on of the texas dissappered..
i found it hiding in a corner the smaller texas was beating it up badly. so i moved the aggressive texas to the cichlid tank and hes holding his own against convicts , pearsii and a unidentified vieja. that are much bigger than he is.
After i moved the texas the other fish seem really happy and the injured texas is swimming about more and eating again.

I was shocked how agressive a tiny little fish could be!!!! im going to give them a 100 gallon of there own next year..

i know that texas are regarded as aggressive but i didnt expect it when they were so small

anyone else find texas slow growing??

Yeah my texas is a mean 1 as well i got it at 2" and 18 months later it is 5" i would call slow but steady growth.Well i guess slow compaired to a devil that i raised from fry to 7" in 1 year to the month.:naughty: :grinno:

my texas' grew from 1" to 6" in 14 months in a 75g with other mean inhabitants... he got more bulky at about 3" and stopped his lateral growth and just started gaining weight, than after about 3 months of him staying 3" and getting wider he had a growth spur and reached 6" from 3 in about four months.

he started beating the hell out of my polleni, so i put him in a 150g with a 10"oscar and 12" jag that i temp. owned, the jag made quick work of him and the oscar finally put him down.

I guess i got a runt or a little lady:grinno: it was raised and fed the same as big devil in the same tank.

mine doesnt do anything, mainly because it has a convict and a firemouth that is alot bigger than it in the same tank, he just keeps to his little pot and only bothers the dempsey when the dempsey trys to go around "his" pot. the firemouth and convict dont mind each other or the dempsey, but for some reason every one hates the texas, funny because hes my favorite fish other than the dempsey.

I bought mine in April of this year. He was absolutely tiny when I first got him, I'd say somewhere around the 3/4 inch mark. Now he's about 4 inches long. 3 1/4 inches in about 8 months is kind of slow, but he also spawned 5 times which may have slowed his growth down some? Maybe not.
