Our country used to be like that. Thank God we have education and prosperity to thank for ending environmental abuse like this. Republicans care too, but we don't wear hemp.
I guess I was about 14 years old when I learned about Philippine fish caught with cyanide. The shop I worked in was adament about not stocking Filappino fish but in some cases, that's all you could get. Fish not caught with cyanide cost more.
Fish caught with cyanide made great pets! They were quite lively and ate really well; much better than their non-cyanide caught counterparts. Even difficult species thrived in your home aquarium for a little while. Problem is, increased appetite is a sympton of cyanide poisoning and the fish would only last 3-4 months before dieing. This was a widespread problem in the pet industry right through the 1980's.
It coincides with second~third world status and the disregard for anything but their own economic condition that comes with it...I, being Taiwanese, would know.
