My fish room
I have a 12" (and growing really fast) Aba. Is there any small fish or invertabrates that I can safely put in his tank to help clean up his leftover food (tilapia, shrimp, worms etc)? He is very aggressive and will often kill any feeder rosies that he is too full to eat. I had thought about a Cory but I am afraid he will harass it to death. Any ideas. If not, it is no big deal. I clean out food debris as I see them.

Snails?

Sounds like you may just be overfeeding. Try hand feeding, or only giving him one piece of food at a time until he stops eating, and then remove any leftover food immediately.

I am probably giving him too much food. I don't want to hand feed because as he grows I don't want him associating my hand with food.
Snails may work. Any advice on a species?

I have always kept ramshorn snails and a breeding colony of guppies in the tank with my aba aba. I also have kept shoals of rosey yellows in with him at times.

When I get too many snails I takeout some and feed them to my electric eel, stingrays, puffer, australian lungfish etc.

My aba has been in many tanks as he has grown from a 180 to the 480 he is in now. I might soon move him to an 810 when some buddies come over to help me.

Thanks for the advice. I just watched your videos. I am humbled.

Yeah man, I can't believe you got a response from arapaimag. I've been on here for years now and I don't think he even looks at my threads......... :irked:

I have always wanted an Aba Aba. Can you post some pictures for us newbies...... :D

Heheh... CHOMP :WHOA:

I would suspect most MFKers are guilty of overfeeding. Feeding the exact proper amount the right way is really an art form, one that I hope someday to master with all my tanks.

I will post some pics tonight. There is at least one pic in my gallery.
