I picked this one up last week from "Below the water". It's about 18" and doing good in a community tank of preds. Haven't seen it eat yet though! I put some live food in after the lights are out so maybe he is disposing some feeders in the dark before the Cichla.

he might be wanting feeder tankmates. :D kidding aside, a very beautiful specimen!

Very nice. He may get cranky and start killing the other fish. At 18"-20" they usually begin to get pretty nasty toward room mates. I would be especially watchful of your rays. Your aba is very capable of biting chunks out of their disks. Mine will kill feeder fish once he is full just for the heck of it.

This is one mean fish and he is solo now! Right now it's meaner then my Hoplias Aimara. It bites the gravel cleaner and tries to bite my hand when I clean the inside glass. Might be up for sale soon as I am building another big tank for some rays.

Very nice aba aba knife...yes they are very aggressive...will kill other tankmates most likely
Thanks!

He was okay with the peacock bass, black wolf fish and a couple rays and then I sold and moved things and just kept the aba with a black wolf fish and the wolf bite off the end of his tail. The tail grew right back after I moved the wolf. I tried a 12" ID shark and the Aba ripped him apart but the shark healed later in another tank. So now the Aba lives alone and just terrorizes me!

He's looking good.. the only thing I've managed to keep alive with my aba is a whiptail cat adult. and he hides in the driftwood most the time. my aba also grew up from about 6" to his 16"+ with him in the tank... also had a flash pleco in the tank that he decided was unwelcome anylonger. some people can put these bad boys in agg comm tanks.. but I don't see it happening w/ mine either. most people think my fahaka puffer is one Bad boy... until they see Bruce... They are a trip to own though, one of the smartest fish I've ever owned. If I had the room to try and house 2 I would in a heartbeat.
