I want to make a 3D background for my 210 gal out of styro and Quikrete. My question is: Is there anything I can seal the background with to prevent chemicals from leeching into the tank? Or should I just rinse it off and soak it for a few days? Or a combo of both?
Please help
Thanks for reading

there was a guy who made a diy background out of styro and quikcrete and it killed a couple of his fish. dont think he let it cure long enough and he took it out and put something over it. ill try to find that thread and post it up for u

I used DRYLOK and tinted it with some household paint. Check out my album pics in my profile. I loved doing it and would be more than happy to help you. If you want, gimme a call....The background in my tank is awesome, I really dig it. With the algae growing on it, its really cool.

Thanks for the info and I appreciate the offer. I'll let you know.
PS: nice background

I have used qucikrete on several backgrounds with no problem. there should be no chemicals in concrete that are deadly to fish. Quickrete doesnt even make cement or mortor they buy it directly fromt he cement plants the mine and manufacutre cememt.
