hello everyone. well a week ago i got 2 mature male hystrixs, one 10" an other 12" both proven breeders. they where housed together when i got them and are now. My ? is can 2 mature males be kept together long periods of time with out getting any tail, if u know what i mean. i have heard of blue balls but not blue claspers lol. the last 2 days i have noticed the smaller male messing around with the larger one, mostly just toping him an playing around like rays do. but tonight he actually bite an didnt let go an tryed to mate with the larger male. lol he even worked is way to the back an tried to use his claspers. now i would think since they have been together for long time they would no that its only another back door. lol
will this just get worse or is he just being a usual male. i plan to get them a girl/girls as soon as my indoor pond is done. but tell then im just hoping they can get along with out having to divide them. its not to crazy yet, the larger male seems to just let it happen. then when he is done with it he shakes him off an swims away an the smaller ray just leaves him alone. just kinda curious about how everyone else mature males act. this is my 1st 2 mature males. so far im not worried at all as there no signs of each one hurting the other, an if one isnt down they just swim away with out being bugged. but they seem to just do it then go about there days lol i think i need to get them a girl friend bc there is some brokeback mountain action going on in my tank
oh a note. they started to get frisky the last few days. an the last few days i have done small daily water changes bc the water is alot colder out side do to the weather. but i would use a spray bar when filling it back up. the temp would drop 2 at most. but could this maybe simulate a rain season? could this be getting them in the mood?
thanks in advance for any tips. and please share ur storys about your mature males
