i have this driftwood in my tank for almost 5 months now but til now it still makes my water brownish somewhat...how do i stop this discoloration in my water? i always do water changes but then it still makes my water brownish. please give me advice.

first off, what type of wood is it? certain types of wood will continually leech tannins into the water no matter how many times you change he water.
second, did you ever boil the wood? this helps release lots of tannins right off the bat. it helps to reduce problems with pests in the wood, tannins, and also helps waterlog the wood. its good practice to do this with all wood before adding it to any setups

i'm not quite sure what kind of wood it is but it's awfully heavy at just around 2 feet in length. i was not able to boil it because it was only given to me by my friend and it came from his pond and it is already sinking at that time that's why my friend told me not to boil it anymore.

You should still boil it if you can. Especially coming from your friend's pond. Boil it and if it continues to leak tannins, I would just recommend getting a new piece of driftwood. Sorry :frog:

isf its any type of fruit tree wood, it will leak out tannins and will affect your ph.

u can use carbon to make the water more clear
its a losing battle if the wood is leeching constantly. the carbon will be saturated with organic material far quicker than the wood will stop leeching. plus, most people have some carbon in their filtration already and it probably isn't helping him if he has any

thanks alot for the suggestions guys. i really appreciate it.

the only suggestion i had would be carbon like the other member said. if your water parameters aren't affected the tannins are not harmful to the fish. depending on what you're keeping it will likely soften the water and actually help.

I hear purigen works well to remove tannins.
