Greetings everyone,

I am curious to know if anyone has experianced an increase in water temp due to pump in the wet/dry sump? I am using a Flotec submersible pump for the water return to my 75 gallon tank; the sump is a 20 gallon tank with about 5 to 6 gallons consistantly present in the sump. The temp is 78 degrees right now, but it seems to have risen 2-3 degrees within the past week of using this pump. I have o's and pacu's and a pleco in the tank; they seem to be fine with the present water temp. Any similiar experiances out there and what might be a remedy? My first thought is to cycle the pump off and on a few hours out of the day and let the tank water readjust to room temp which is about 73 degrees. Thanks for any advice, Tom

P.S. Just in case anyone was wondering, all my fish are juveniles(4" and less) and a diy tank is in the planning stages (665 gallons):D

In most cases submersible pumps will add a few dergrees to the water. 82-83 dergrees is fine for your fish. I would not turn your pump off and on to try to regulate the temp. If you absolutely must have the tank at 78 then you might have to look at other filter options or a chiller.

So it was 75-76 before, and now its steady at 78? I'm assuming you have no heater correct? If your steady at 78 your golden ;)

This is a new pump? Maybe you could exchange it, and try another one it may run cooler.

Is it fully submerged? If not, try raising the water in the sump.

Trade it in on an external pump and put a bulkhead fitting on the sump.

Or keep checking it to make sure the temp doesn't rise any more...Winter is coming. :D

It is a new pump and I keep all of my receipts, which is a good thing. I will try to raise the water level in the sump first and if that doesn't work... I guess it's back to Home Depot. Too bad they don't have power heads; only the pond pumps (which are submersible) and the Flotec pumps. The Flotec submersible ones were the cheapest; the external ones were near the $200 range.
