hi :)
i have a really tough questions ...but i will tell u a story 1st.."B paission plz"
one of "my friend" he is a local fish farm owner , an admin and owner of one of big local fish forum ...
he told me that it is possible to breed the comman pleco "L021-L023 "in normal glass tank !!!!
after a small conversation about what i was thing that there are no comman pleco males found in LFS and if found males and female it is impossible to breed them in a glass tank even u use a big plywood tank and make a silt layers in ur tank's ground as a substrate "to make as normal sea's ground " and have a daily particular water cycling using a very pure water "as u get from ro filter to look like rains "because they need a very large area like a channel or a pond or a swimming pool or by injection like lotches or wild cough
but he refuses what i said ....
and told me that there is a male and female comman pleco normally "not a big controversial point " but he told me in a very sure tone that it is easy to breed comman pleco in tanks !! and easy to know the gender of the comman pleco !!
and to prove what he said just sent to me a youtube video of a pair of comman pleco breeding that what he said and the video tiltle also said

[YT]http://www.youtube.com/user/tetralina3[/YT]
www.youtube.com/user/tetralina3

but when i saw the video i see them just playing not mating or spawning

my question "finally :)":
is it true that it is easy to breed the comman pleco in a glass tank?
if that true how ?

& thanks a lot
waiting ur replies :)

Its not true. However im not sure where you heard that there arent any males in the hobby... Thats just ridiculous.
They are difficult to breed because they need a very large wall of mud to create a burrow in. Or at least, thats how ive heard that they breed.

To get rid of a myth... it is not impossible to sex commons. It has always been pointless so why bother.

That video didn't prove anything as most fish fight the same way they spawn. I've seen plecos fight like that before... and that's what I'm chalking that up to be. If they were spawning, where are the videos of the eggs coming out?

^^agreed @Plec123. He is right, commons and gibbiceps aren't expensive because of just that, they aren't rare. But just because they're cheap doesn't meant that they are easy to breed. I've read that the Gibbiceps actually burrow up to 3ft in the mud to create their nest and, as one would assume, those conditions would be hard to recreate for breeding purposes in a tank.
