Hey guys so I am about to get a black piranha. He is a juvi, 3/4-1inch. He is going in a 40b tank. The ph is slightly above 7.0, it is 76*f, and no ammonia. I mainly am wondering if there is anything you would suggest I know that you wish you had known when you were a first time piranha owner. Should I get a powerhead for him?

Yes I suggest you have a lot of patience Black Rhoms grow slow. Other than that one of my personal favorites, please upgrade in the future. :) Also hope you are aware of no tankmates not even their own species.:)

I will give him a bigger tank for sure later, but I am pretty sure that a 40b will be fine for him for a while as he may not even be a full inch yet. I will have him by himself for sure. What about a powerhead? Does he need one? I have an emperor 400 on the tank so that is a pretty good bit of current already from that.

Honestly I would keep him in something smaller to make sure he's eating first......and that 40 breeder will last you a couple years easy

I also have a 20 gallon but the filter on it is not that great. It puts out little flow so there wouldnt be much current. Is that ok? I can do water changes for the water quality to keep it right, I just have seen online some people say they need current and others say they dont, and I just want to be sure I have everything set up right for him.

Use the filter you have on the 40 for the 20...... the current from the filter will be fine.... I wouldn't add a powerhead until he's at least 2 inches

Why not use the filter from the 40g

I have fish in the 20 that I will have to move to the 40 if I am to put the P in the 20. The filter on the 20 is an Aqueon 20. Should that be enough current?

Yea.....Current helps mimic the amazon and helps the fish metabolize food better...keeps it in shape ......Current is not required
