OK, my heat is 65. probably 70 when we completaly move in. so we got lids cut for for the tank( quarter inch thick). I had 2x 300w jagers, ok, I sit both heaters at exactly the same temp. thinking it would heat them up and cut off. Ok one stays on 24/7 only getting the heat up to 77.5. and the other goes on and off. The fish are fine and cruising around. but i want it up to 79 to 80 and well on and off, not it running all the time. so insulation tomorrow and the lids. I am just confused with it not getting up to 80, I can even unplug one heater and then the other stays on continusally and keeps it at 77. I have expeirance with jagers. so I know it takes some times to calibrate but I have both the same. I had one that i moved over from my 75 and it keep the heat at 81. so I have no clue, if i keep my house heat at 70, will it really make much of a differance in the tank heat. I am just plum confused and worry of the power bill to come

Could be the heaters aren't properly calibrated. It's also possible, that if there is not good water flow around the heaters, that they are reacting to local temperatures that differ from the tank thermometer. If you have a sump, low ambient temps, high evaporation or drafts around the tank, one 300W will not be able to overcome a 15 degree ambient temperature.

no sump, just a few Ac110s and a few sponges. i will try to re calibrate again, but i swear i tried them in the 10 gallon and they brought the temp up to 80. so i figured they would do it, i will crank the ambiant house heat to 70, and see if affects anything

I bought a Rancho controller and plugged all three of my heaters into it. That thing is amazing. If you have a the extra bucks pick up a Rancho controller. Nice LED display to set temps.

I have one Jager 300w keeping my 180g at 82.5, ambient temp in the room is between 70 and 72.
The heater is in a very well circulated location and it runs about 14hrs out of 24. It stays constant and it only has to make up a 5+\- degree deficiency after a water change and that only takes about 18hrs. SO...
What is the size of the tank? Are you keeping the heater near circulated water or off in the corner?
The position of the heater is the MOST important thing you can do. I have kept 50g tanks heated with 50w heaters...granted, the heater was on 24\7 and was directly positioned in the stream of a powerhead, but that is my point. The position is very important.
BTW, if the heater is not getting the tank up to 82 being set at 82, set the heater to 85. Wait a few days and see what that does. Gradually bring it up or down depending on what the adjustments do.
That heater should be ok for your tank...depending on the size of the tank of course.
good luck.

I have it between the intakes of 2x Ac110s and a sponge filter is sitting in front of it.. I do have a ranco, would that actually help. I have it from my snake rack breeding day. my jager is set on 83, be i need to boost the suck up to 90 lol:WHOA:

Yea the Rancho would help. It would keep the heaters working together. If the calibration is wrong on one of your heaters then it wont matter if its plugged into the Rancho. I'd say start their and then add a third heater if that doesn't solve the problem.
