under a bridge in fl
i built this months ago
its 3/4 pipe,the thin kind
it had a 256gph pump
i had to add a ball valve to the return to re direct some water cus it was to much for the 3/4
well that pump went up in smoke
so i put a small,190gph pump on it
no re direct
tested the return at the top of the tank,it was about 80gph lol
worked fine for a bit
but now it gurgles every few seconds
thin 3/4 has to be able to handle 80gph right?
i suck and suck on the one way thing
have covered the stack and did one way thing
ive closed the overflow valve to make it backup then let it flush
nothing works

i built a 1" overflow but then when i upgrade the pump someday i feel it wont handle a bigger pump

so what could it be that is making it gurgle?
heres a pic of the 3/4 one im using now

also

could i not use the one way valve thing next overflow?
way i start it is cap stack, suck from bottom
it makes a strait hard syphon
"im thinking cleans pipe of air"
then i un cap it and then it works like normal
then if i want to get some air out of the overflow i just cap the stack and let it syphon a bit then un cap it

did anyone understand that?
:D

so the two "horse shoes" sit on either side of the tank and the t'd and 90'd is the inlet for the overflow? if thats the case air builds up in the pvc extension that completes the second horse shoe and is sucked into the water-flow, thats your gurgle, i think.
did i get it right?

Do you have a vent hole in the cap located on the exterior riser? If there is no vent hole, then there is the potential for the overflow to gurgle.

ya cap has hole, but i usually just leave it uncapped

close the ball valve at the bottom of the overflow bit by bit. The gurgle is from the water rushing out once it fills (creates a siphon)

Unless it's gurgling non stop, then it's probably just from the vent tube.

weird thing is,most of the time it is almost a constant gurgle
then few hours later it will be quiet for a bit then gurgle then quiet then gurgle lol

and closing the valve
if i close it to much it will overflow the overflow or tank tho right?
so it has to be perfect or even a lil off could be trouble in time right?
thats why i havent closed the valve any yet :irked:

Closing the valve a bit is more of a troubleshooting method. There is a fine line where it'll work ok though (unless the pump suddenly becomes more powerful.

i added a ball valve to the overflow before it goes into the sump...this lets me fine tune it and slow down the flow a bit so it always has a constant syphon and never gurgles...i see u have one on urs too...just close it a bit and it should go away...works for me...do u always just leave it all the way open??

edit man i shoulda read the whole post...lol...i see u were talking about it...lol...dont be scared and try it out...just close it lil by lil and see what happens...i barely even have to touch mine to get the gurgle to stop
