Swimmin' with the fishes
I've been doing some research in to finally getting a pond going outside. Currently in the outskirts of Phoenix, AZ. What I've been debating about is whether i want to build one out of wood and liner (looking at 8'x12'x~32") or just buying a used above ground pool and cleaning the ever living hell out of it.

Here's what I'm dealing with:
The fish going in it will be koi, RTC and channel cat.
Already have a laguna 3200 UVC with max-flo 2900 pump
Currently both catfish are ~15-17" and koi around 14-16"
Currently catfish are in 300g (96"x30") acrylic tank and koi are in 300g (8'x3') metal stock tank outside

So I did some calculations and determined I could build a ~1800g pond for ~$600.

OR

I could go on craigslist and buy a 14' (3500g) round intex pool for $120.

The things I don't like about the pool are the frame is 42" tall (I'd build the pond to 32") and it's a used swimming pool, so cleaning it is a MUST.

Anyone have any input, past experience, advice, etc?

I've been debating the same question myself.

Building your own in the ground should last longer but it would cost more and need more work.

The intex(with metal support) is cheaper with less work, but is easier to damage.
