Above Ground Pond Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
depends on how cold it gets where you live

You might want to check out some koi dedicated sites. Sugarloaf koi in NY makes and sells a heater. You might want to have some of the pond below ground to help eliminate some of the heat loss. What are you stocking in your pond?

I had an above ground pond outside in montana. Best option is to insulated it with house insulation and make a box like a jacuzzi. Otherwise you'll pay the difference in electricity to heat it. I also made an insulated top to go on it. It's in the pond section. Look through my thread called indoor pond, by necrocanis. Used one 500 w heater to heat 350 gals of water to 80 f. during a winter storm where the temps were -40 plus 30 mph winds. The temp didn't budge in fact my electricity bill went down after adding the insulation. The heater only ran just every now and then. Hope this helps.

Alright, thanks man. I was thinking about using insulation anyways, so I guess I will now. I haven't seen any 500w heaters around here at the lfs. Probaably find 'em online though, I guess. Thanks again though, man, I'll check your thread.
