As the titled subject suggests.
is it alright to have an above-ground pond atop dirt?
I've seen a lot over concrete and other more impervious substances, so I was wondering if this was alright. And or if I needed some type of barrier between the liner and the dirt.

Gracias

I hope so cause I'm gonna try it lol!

I would recommend some type of foundation. When it starts raining, watering the lawn, sprinklers, all that fun stuff...it'll soften the soil which will make the pond slowly sink into the dirt. Next thing you know...half your pond is in the ground. And it'll be a BIG hassle to remove it.

I made a pond out of our old jaccuzzi that never worked. It sits on the ground and gets some funny comments but, its deep enough to keep the racoons out without having to put a screen over the top, like our other pond.

This could happen if your pond is heavy enough how many gallons are u taking about in your pond ? I would suggest somthing under it unless it's just like a kiddy pool or somthing. Plywood i know it's ugly but it works or paver/stepping stones will work or for a long term fix quickcrete.
