Any reason I can't use an above ground pool as a pond?

ive heard that the pool liner has some type of stuff in it to prevent algea and what not, and that can be harmfull to the fish, i have no proof of that, but thats what i heard. but whatever you do, make sure to take pics! lol

Well if it does then it doesn't work worth a #$%^, I've managed my family's pool and algae grows like... well algae in a pool on a sunny day.

I really want a RTC but I'm gonna need a fricking big pond for it.

Pool should be fine, it has been done before.

Ditch the plumbing that came with it and buy a high effecient/heavy duty pump to filter and areate. Addition water flow can be as easy as a couple of high output air stone/diffusers and a good air compressor. Linear diaphram compresors are good, rocking piston compressors are better, but require a little extra maintence with the air filters. Pricing is big difference in them, but a little search should help find a good effecient model with a warranty.

Use some tester goldfish or other cheap fish to see if water is safe. RTC might be a challenge to keep unless you plan on heating....

if you plan to heat get solar heater panels for it. my pool is about 30,000 gallons I think? maybe more?? and we have solar panels to warm it, keeps it the the 80 and sometimes was in the 90's lol

Also if you thinking of the rubber type above ground pools mind the fish you keep. With that much force on the walls it doesn't take a lat to rip one.

Hey hows your pond going I was thinking the same idea you were please let me know how its going so I can do the same I live in florida too and how did you heat it in winter?
