Above ground pool sand filters?

That's what I thought too. I figured I could use the sand and add some other media and experiment a bit with it that way I wont need a separate bio filter,carbon reactor and a water polisher and it also looks like it will save on filter media because I won't be changing media monthly.
 
it will plug up over time but from what i read you just back flush it and it's good to go again. the sand should host BB and it is fine enough that you may not need another filter unless you have water color issue?
 
That's what I was thinking. I remember helping my grandfather when I was younger clean his pool filter, a quick back flush and good as new and since the sand is so fine I could probably fabricate a basket and fill it with carbon to take care of any color or issues or stank tank issues...lol
